  20. We are currently using Kermit which is embeddeded into an industrial
  21. control.  The control has a RS232 port which can then be wired to a PC
  22. COM port and running Kermit 95 to transfer files.

  24. What I would like to do is add a Serial to Ethernet converter device
  25. (NPort www.moxa.com for example) to the control to eliminate the need
  26. to run RS232 to the control.  The idea is the control could be
  27. accessed from a PC anywhere on the network.

  29. What I'm not sure about is can Kermit 95 access an IP address directly
  30. just as it would a COM port.  Or do I need to get a driver for Windows
  31. that maps a virtual COM port to a TCP/IP address that Kermit 95 can
  32. then access.  I understand how Kermit uses Telnet to do access a
  33. TCP/IP address, but our control does not support Telnet.  It only
  34. supports the Kermit protocol directly.
